a new year, brings big change

A while back I posted about this room. It actually made my little sister tear up she thought it was so beautiful. Then today, I was reading the new House & Home I saw that the designer, Victoria Webster, had redone the room. The crazy thing is, the room is entirely the same, except for the walls. And wow, do the walls change everything.

Here is the original room:

And here it is now:

(So sorry for the picture quality, I couldn't find it anywhere online so I had to scan)

They removed the wallpaper and had a mural painted on the walls and wow does it change the entire room. I have to say, I absolutely love seeing how designers move around and change their own homes.

What do you think, do you like the original or the new room better?

  1. I remember seeing the 'new' room somewhere recently... but of course I don't remember where for you, sorry!

I like the original room MUCH better... I think the mural or wall graffiti (as I remember reading it) doesn't do the room or furniture justice.

  3. Hmmm. Kind of a tough one. I guess maybe the 2nd one but only b/c of the dark base color on the wall.

  4. I think it's very cool in theory and I appreciate the risk but I think I prefer the original- the gorgeous yellow wallpaper just gives such a beautiful backdrop for everything else to shine off of- it seems balanced. I also think it takes away from the stunning artwork- it makes it a bit hard to know where to look. I do totally love originality of the mural though.

  6. wow! Ohh. It's like I WANT to like the new one more, because the mural is creative, unique, ect... but for some reason don't... Somehow there seems to be a better balance (to my taste) of modern/tailored vs traditional. Even though the new murals are very modern I'm sure, the room as a whole seems so heavy and traditional to me... I like light though!

  7. original - i love the yellow walls and feel they give a much better balance to the room, I also think the mural jars with the artwork, whereas it compliments the original yellow x

  8. I love the mural, it looks really fun. But I think it would have been better in a different part of the room. The furniture and everything looks better with the yellow walls. =)

  9. Wow - what a change! I still LOVE the first version. As you know, It is what I'm going for in my living room. I can't make a decision about the newer room. Don't like the first image of two, but am warming up to the second ...

  12. Ohhh so fun, I love seeing changes to a familiar room.. this new wall treatment sure does pack a punch! It's a little more edgy but still liveable, I think I dig it!
