Motivational Monday

I need a little kick in the butt today. And maybe you do too?

(I just like this piece of art)

Sometimes, when I am really busy or overwhelmed I focus 100% on one thing and the other things fall to the bottom of the list. It's something I am going to change about myself. Truly. The past couple weeks have been amazingly busy at work (trust me, I'd never complain about that) but because of it, my house is sort of a disaster  (imagine white dog fur everywhere), I've been eating like crap and am seriously behind on emails.

Time to change. I have the hours and minutes in my day to take care of the other stuff. So the time I spend relaxing is now going to be spent getting things in order... my house, my health and my emails! Don't get me wrong there will still be some relaxing time, maybe just a little less.

Do you have a bad habit when you get busy? I'd love to hear how you avoid it.

  1. I TOTALLY feel you. I'm coming off a vacation and just feel utterly overwhelmed with work, move and life. I just keep reminding myself its all good things, but still... Good luck! xoxo

  2. I eat poorly! But regular workouts and a good nights sleep is the key! X

  3. I totally agree! Exercise and healthy eating are the first things to fall by the wayside when I get too busy. And then I end up feeling awful. Good luck pushing through it!

  4. I completely echo your sentiments! Diet and exercise are the last thing on my mind when work takes over life. The house falling apart is a close third. I'm working on this one too!

  5. I'm with you
I work a lot and long hours but after I got sick late last year
I know how to stop, take a breath and relax. We need to listen to our bodies.
    Health is so precious.

  6. I watch WAY too much TV online...have a zillion other things to do but when I'm overwhelmed, I either spend hours sourcing pretty stuff online or hours making my self brain dead with TV.

    LOVE that painting!

  7. I completely understand! When I get busy I just let my apartment go completely. I stop cleaning up, and it's just a mess of clothes and papers everywhere. Usually it ends up stressing me out even more because I can't think clearly in so much clutter, so I end up breaking down and cleaning everything up.

  8. I struggle with it all the time which is why toys are always out and about (they get brought back out as soon as i put them away anyway).

  9. I was just thinking about this this morning. I feel like I spent my whole weekend catching up and getting things done, and now when it comes to Monday morning, I'm overwhelemed and just want some rest. Many times when this happens it's because I'm not getting enough rest so that I can actually tackle everything and do a good job. If I just keep going, nothing will be done properly. So when I get overwhelemed, I set a timer for 10-15 minutes every few hours to do something completely un-work related, like read this blog. :) Sometimes I'll take a 10 minute nap, walk around the neighborhood, doodle in a notebook or make tea. It's all about balance, and sometimes you have to make yourself stop for a sec so you can do it all.

  10. TV, I watch trashy TV when I'm overwhelmed, although those are the times i seem to work out the most! So - half bad half good

  11. Junk food. I avoid it by working out first thing in the morning. It makes me feel as though I've really accomplished something right at the start of the day, plus I'm less inclined to ruin that hard work with crappy food.

  12. I know how you feel. My husband and I are still in the funk with trying to unpack the new house, working insane hours, and balancing everything else. Since we're on the go so much, we have a tendency to eat out. A LOT. I get to the point where my body just shuts down and goes, "Nope. I feel like crap. Time to stop."

All I can say is I can relate, and don't push too much pressure on yourself; you'll make it through the fog.

  13. I totally feel the same way. Too much to do. Not enough time to do it all. My husband made non-paleo cookies and I ate more than I should have this weekend. So not eating good when busy is a downfall of mine too!

  14. I'm very similar in that I can only really have one major element or event of my life under control and in order, at any one time. So at the moment, I am also very busy with and at work. When I get home of an afternoon, all I have the energy for is to collapse on the lounge and look at pretty pics on Pinterest while the latest trashy Reality TV show plays on the TV in the background. Bliss. But my house is also a bit of a brothel at the moment and needs attention. And do you think eating a packet of chocolate Tim Tams for dinner is a healthy option?! Wake up call for me too - thanks for sharing Alex, you have definitely inspired me to give myself a kick up the bum!
